Ouya - An Android Based Console?

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not really into consoles, but this upcoming $99 Android based one has got me a bit excited! I like the idea of an open platform for a console, plus all the other things it'll be capable of doing. Check this bit out:

Just remember that "open" is a relative term.

Android is probably the least "open" of "open source" operating systems.

Also, you can (and have been able to for years) already turn any phone w/ MHL into a "console" with a couple of PS3 controllers (bluetooth) and an MHL HDMI out cable/adapter.

lol - have already on-lived to a projector over MHL from a phone, too. Welcome to 2010?

OnLive is great for video streaming - sucks for noncasual gaming.

Cost of cheap smart phone without contract: $100
Cost of Ouya (theoretically): $100
Total Cost: $200

Cost of expensive smart phone without contract: $500
Total Cost: $500

Conversely, make sure your existing one does/doesn't support mhl. It's not unheard of. You may not have to have to shell out another $100 for the same thing you already have, AND you'd always have it with you instead of it being tethered to your TV AND it'll have it's own dedicated internet connection.
