 Flash crashed on me (in my Pandora tab) while posting this - no shit.

Anyway,

Microsoft Ditches Flash in Windows 8 Metro IE10 in Latest Setback for Adobe

Quote:
All eyes have been on Microsoft ever since its BUILD conference got underway in Anaheim, California on Tuesday. While Redmond is using the new event primarily to acquaint developers with Windows 8, it’s also giving just about everyone else a glimpse of the operating system’s future in the process. Talking about the future, there seems to be an emerging consensus around the tech world that it’s going to be pretty bleak for plugins like Flash and Silverlight.

Like many others, Microsoft also expects such plugins to be usurped by HTML5 over time. Dean Hachamovitch, who spearheads the IE team, has revealed that the Metro style IE10 app is strictly meant to offer an entirely plugin-free web experience.

So it sounds like they're ditching both Flash *AND* Silverlight. Considering WinMo7 is based on Silverlight... well, it sounds like Microsoft has come to term with the retardation of their Silverlight initiative and come to their senses about proprietary, end-user-machine-based browser plugins.

So Apple is going to support Flash, and Windows isn't.

Everything's topsy-turvy nowadays. How will you poor people keep up? To everyone here, Flash is as vital as food or water.

At least, that's the way you make it sound.

?

Apple/iOS isn't supporting Flash at all - Flash is making a server side Flash-to-HTML5 harness to convert Flash content into a mobile-computing-legitimate format. (Something anyone with a brain in the industry saw coming for miles, if you ask me.)

Lucky me, I just bought into the flash friendly WebOS camp.

I can see M$ screwing the users of a rival technology, but the silverlight thing did come as a bit of a shock. :?

Other sites (namely the BBC, as Hanners always points out) still use Flash for video, though...

It ain't so - drop to the classic desktop, and Flash support is still available. Flash isn't going to die until a suitable HTML replacement (and no, HTML5 ain't it for delivering secure video content) is made available.

Holy crap it's been a long time since I've been here!

Just thought it'd be an interesting time to drop in and report in on the state of HTML5 on mobile -- there's an HTML5 tethering app now. Suck it, Apple!

I for one will be glad to see the back of Flash, it can't happen soon enough. Thanks to todays latest and greatest Flash update about 50% of the videos i try to view on youtube are now unwatchable...

Easier said than done on ARM - there will be no "Desktop" app for the ARM version of Win8
